I was an overweight kid for as long as I can remember. Throughout my teens and early 20s I tried everything to lose weight, and nothing worked.

Until running.

I started in August of 2010 on a whim. I was inspired by other bloggers who ran and got so much joy out of it. So I started the Couch to 5K and have been running ever since.

I (slowly) went from 195 pounds to 150 pounds by running. Here is my story.

Pattie Reaves

This morning I stepped on the scale for the first time in awhile. 161.2. Ugh. It has been just about 2 years since I have breached the 160 mark. I actually welcomed this development. Bring it on, scale. I have…

by Pattie Reaves • April 16, 2013 • 0 Comments

The People Who Watch Marathons. Oh my god, this. This article on Jezebel. It sums it up perfectly. The spectators — people who show up and cheer with noisemakers and high fives and encouraging cheers and magic-markered tagboard signs…

The meaning of the Boston Marathon

by Pattie Reaves • April 15, 2013 • 0 Comments

At 3 p.m., I was texting Jen, whose husband, Dan, just finished the Boston Marathon today. It was an amazing day for a marathon, and I was thinking — finally! Last year the runners had such a hot, miserable day.…

Approaching the finish line

Where I am

by Pattie Reaves • March 29, 2013 • 0 Comments

Today's run by Lewiston-Auburn's Great Falls.

I have been seriously enjoying just being an active person. Running with friends when I can. Running with new friends. Running because it’s beautiful outside. The winter is melting away sooo very slowly this year. It almost hit 50 today…

This isn’t just a blog about running. It’s a blog about life after the couch.

Me & the Gweeblet

This isn’t a blog just about running. It’s a blog about life after the couch. I fear sometimes that if you looked at me just by my favorite posts, or my Couch to 5K post it makes it sound like…

Loving the uncomfortable place

by Pattie Reaves • February 25, 2013 • 0 Comments

Monday morning. I love that icing on the trees effect.

Yesterday was my birthday. I’m now 28! I told Tony I wanted to spend it on a “ski vacation,” so that’s what we did. My parents came down on Friday; Saturday I did a long run (at 8 miles) with…
