Today’s run was the point where I made my first 20-mile week!
The breakdown:
- Sunday: Turkey Trot 5K race — 3.1
- Monday: Lunchtime run ~ 3
- Tuesday: Nighttime run (so nice and steamy and Christmasy!) ~ 5
- Wednesday: Lunchtime run, sans music ~ 2.8
- Thursday: Happy Thanksgiving! — 0
- Friday: Treadmill — 3.3
- Saturday: Around town after a big breakfast ~ 4.8
… making the total 22 miles! Whoo! (It also helps that this is the first week where I’ve run 6 days of the week).
Segwaying ….
If you think you hate running, its probably because you’ve only run on a treadmill.
The great thing about running outside is that its about learning places. So, I am (relatively speaking) new to Lewiston-Auburn. And driving around a place, you just don’t learn it like you do when your feet hit the pavement and your fingers brush all the bushes. Walking and running around is like how I learn the the houses and the streets and the neighborhoods and the pretty views and the people who live there.
You don’t get any of that on the treadmill. And at the Planet Fitness in Lewiston, you get to run facing the bakery section of Shaws and the smell of the Chinese buffet, which is pure torture.
Maybe if you readers have any treadmill running tips, you can share them with me. On Friday, I set out to do 5 miles on the treadmill and I had to quit after 3. I would run outside in freezing temperatures with an inch of neck-breaking ice on the ground any day over the treadmill. All I can do when I run on the treadmill is focus on how much running on the treadmill sucks.
It’s starting to make sense to me, now, those crazy running people who get up early and run outside in freezing weather.
